About The Embassy Cinema
The historic Embassy Theatre is Wellington’s finest picture palace, housing three screens equipped with the latest digital (including 3D) technology and state-of-the-art sound. Originally built in 1924, it was fully refurbished in 2003, to host the World Premiere of the final Lord of the Rings film – The Return of the King. Since 2003 the Embassy has also hosted New Zealand premieres for Peter Jacksons King Kong in 2005 and The Lovely Bones in 2009.
The magnificent main screen of the Embassy can seat over 750 people and offers both standard and Platinum seating. The Platinum seating is a premiere offering allowing you to enjoy a movie in extra comfort in big leather armchairs located in prime position in the theatre.
Situated on the ground level of The Embassy in the main auditoriums original 1920’s orchestral pit, is the newest extension – Cinema Deluxe. Complete with a contemporary bar and lounge area, Cinema Deluxe features two intimate 70-seat premium cinemas with custom made leather armchairs and the very latest in digital sound and screen technology.
Living up to its reputation as being more than just a cinema, within its stylish foyers, The Embassy houses Blondini’s Cafe & Bar, a which offers a variety of drink and food options including coffees, café counter food, tapas menu and New Zealand and International wine list, all of which can be taken into the auditorium or enjoyed in either of the lounge areas.
